Torma – Ritual Food Offering
White Metal Torma: Red colored Torma, triangular in shape, are offered to fearsome protector deities such as Mahakala and Shri Devi. Torma is made from barley flour and constructed for several reasons. They are made as special offerings for specific deities on special days. They are sometimes used to represent the subject of an initiation ritual. They are also used as a weapon during repulsion rituals such as turning back obstacles during new year’s celebrations. They are sometimes made from metals like; copper, silver, white metals, etc. and also depicted in paintings meant to hang in the temples of the wrathful protector deities.

The Torma is made of white metal with copper rings to beautify the Torma and has fine hand carvings decorated with turquoise and coral semiprecious stones which is beautifully hand carved with beautiful images. The hand engraving details are done very finely throughout. The finely hand engraved Torma is crafted by the master artisans of Patan, Nepal.
