Pancha Dzambala or Five Dzambala – The Wealth Deities
Pancha Dzambala Thangka Painting: Dzambala is a wealth deity whose blessings remove the obstacle of poverty, bringing wealth and abundance to pure Dharma practitioners. As it is difficult to attain spiritual realizations while afflicted by lack of resources, Dzambala generates prosperity so that practitioners have the time, energy, and means to accomplish. According to the Sutras, while Shakyamuni Buddha was teaching one day, demons tried to disturb and confuse the Buddha. Dzambala appeared in front of the Buddha and protected him. Recognizing Dzambala’s courageous action, the Buddha asked Dzambala if he would like to become a Dharma Protector in order to help all sentient beings. Dzambala accepted the Buddha’s offer, and since then he has offered immediate assistance to all who call his name or chant his mantra. His blessings bestow good luck, increase virtues, prolong life, increase intelligence, and provide both material and spiritual benefits.
There are five Dzambalas – white, yellow, black, red and green like shown in this Pancha Dzambala Thangka Painting. Each Dzambala has their own mantra and practice to help eliminate poverty and create financial stability.
White Dzambala
White Dzambala (Dzambala Gapee in Tibetan) is believed to be born from the right eye of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, so he is also known as the manifestation of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva. White Dzambala is depicted as sitting on a snow lion, although some artists depict him sitting on a dragon and his right hand holds a trident and in his left hand there is also a mongoose that spits our precious diamonds or ornaments. According to the sutra; his mantra can stop suffering, destroy bad karma and have a Bodhichitta or mind. His mantra can also avert disaster and sickness. He also brings wealth to all sentient being by chants his mantra. Tibetan name is Dzambala Gapee which means White Dzambala.
White Dzambala Mantra is: OM PADMA TROTHA ARYA DZAMBALA SIDDHAYA HUM PHAT
Yellow Dzambala
Pancha Dzambala Thangka Painting: Yellow Dzambala is the manifestation of Buddha Ratnasambhava. Yellow Dzambala is depicted adorned with a crown, silk garments and beautiful gold and jeweled ornaments. He is seated imperially upon a lotus throne, with Bijapuraka (citron) fruit in his right hand and mongoose in his left hand. The mongoose constantly spews forth precious jewels and treasures, and represents Dzambala’s victory over the Nagas. He protected the Dharma and if anyone call his name, he will come and help the person. If one has trouble with finance or anything, one can chant his mantra and he will come and help. But one must have a Bodhi mind and practice Buddhism to attain his blessings. One can also gain wealth, wisdom, intelligence and at last !Attain Buddha Hood!
Yellow Dzambala Mantra is: OM DZAMBALA ZALENDHRAYE SWAHA
Black Dzambala
Black Dzambala is the manifestation of Buddha Akshobhya Buddha. Black Dzambala is also called as the chief of the five great Dzambalas as he is said to have given people wealth and happiness. He is also known as one of the Hindu god of wealth; Kubera. Black Dzambala is usually depicted as standing upon a corpse. He holds a Kapala in his right hand and in his left hand he holds a mongoose. He is depicted in black color. Those who chant his mantra will get wealth and also if one has any kind wishes, he will also fulfill it and bring happiness.
Black Dzambala Mantra: OM DZAMBALA DZAMLIM DZAYE SWAHA
Red Dzambala
Red Dzambala (Dzambala Marpo in Tibetan) is the manifestation of Vajrasattva. He is the God of Wealth. Red Dzambala is depicted in red color adorned with a crown, wearing jewel and gold ornaments and silk garments, embracing his consort Vasundhara. He sits imperially on the lotus throne with right leg stepping on a white conch shell. He has two faces and four arms. The first pair of hands holds a precious gem on the right hand and a jewel filled skull cup on the left hand and the other two hands hold the wish-fulfilling jewels on the right and a mongoose vomiting various jewels on the left hand. He wears the jewel earring and jewel necklace. He is exposing his chest and abdomen. The aura and lucky cloud surrounded on the sides. His consort Vasundhara also holds the wish-fulfilling jewels in the right hand and holds a skull cup.
The beneficence of the Red Dzambala is that his doctrine is suitable for those in high social positions. If they practice his doctrine, they can recruit more talented people and possess more money, valuables and food. If one chants his mantra sincerely, he will protect one and also gain wealth and one can lead a very good life and become popular. He has two mantras. The male and female one.
Red Dzambala Mantra:
Male Mantra: OM DZAMBALA JALANDRAYE NAMA MUMEI E SHE E
Female Mantra: OM DZACHIN DZAMBALA DZAMBALA SWAHA
Green Dzambala
Green Dzambala is also a form of Buddha Akshobhya, who is blue in color. Green Dzambala made a vow in front of Buddha Shakyamuni that he will protect anyone who chant his mantra or chant his name. When one has difficulties, it is best to chant sincerely in one’s heart the mantra. Green Dzambala has the same mantra as the Yellow Dzambala.
