Offering Bowls – Eight Bowls Set
This is a set of eight offering bowls, or tings, as they are called in the local language of Nepal. The eight bowls are traditionally filled each morning, and the offerings are removed at sunset. The act of offering with a sincere heart helps to strengthen our commitment to the Buddha’s teachings, and to destroy feelings of greed and miserliness.
There are eight traditional offering substances: water for drinking, water for bathing, flowers, incense, light, perfume, and food. Eight bowls of water are often used to represent the seven substances, with the water visualized as pure nectar that delights the Buddhas. This beautiful practice, undertaken with a pure intention, creates a vast amount of merit and makes our mind very strong.
